Aloha my ohana,
I am sorry I have been away from your weekly updates for so long and I hope you had an enjoyable holiday and your 2025 is off to the best start it possibly can be at this time.
As a refresher there is a proposed settlement to resolve your case and all other claims for the devastating fires in Maui in August of 2023 of 4.037 billion dollars. The hold up on a trust forming and this money going out to the people of Maui has been the class attorneys demanding money for things like missed vacations (give me a break) and the insurance companies demanding to be paid money off the top of the settlement to reimburse themselves for the property damage claims they have already plead out.
Today I bring you good news, we are close to hopefully finalizing the legal maneuvering in your case. I will be on island January 28th February 7th when Judge Cahill holds his state court trial on the allocation of the proposed trust between the class attorneys and you, and then on February 6th for the Supreme Court of Hawaii argument for the insurance companies. As you recall, Judge Cahill already ruled the insurance companies are the back of the line behind you and your needs, so we need the Supreme Court to affirm his decision and need Judge Cahill to limit the Class Attorneys recovery and we should be in the home stretch to get you the money damages you are owed under the law for what you have suffered these past 17 months.
So thank you for the trust you have placed in me and our law firm and I will send you a video update next week walking you through these items in more detail and I look forward to seeing many of you on island at the end of the month.
Mahalo and Aloha,
Andrew
