Aloha,
I wanted to reach out this week to share where things stand and to recognize the patience and strength you continue to show as we move through this process together, knowing how heavy the waiting has been.
On Tuesday this week, the Hawaii Supreme Court heard oral argument on the appeal involving the class claims tied to the Maui fires. That hearing is now complete, and we are now awaiting the Court’s decision. As we have seen before, the Court understands what is at stake for the people of Maui, and we remain hopeful for a timely ruling that clears the way forward.
At the same time, our team continues preparing for what comes next. We are actively getting ready for the upcoming trust distributions so that once the settlement is funded, we are positioned to move forward without unnecessary delay. Our focus remains on making sure this process works the way it was intended and that meaningful resources reach the people who have been carrying this loss for far too long.
I will be recording a video update next week with more information and context as soon as we have additional clarity. I want you to continue hearing directly from me, plainly and honestly, as things develop.
If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please know you can reach out. You can email me directly at Andrew@avalaw.com, and my team and I will do our best to respond as quickly as we can.
Mahalo for your continued trust and for allowing me to stand with you in this fight. Maui is strong, and I remain committed to seeing this through with care, accountability, and respect for everything you and your families have endured.
Until next week, please take care of yourselves and one another.
Mahalo and Aloha,
Andrew Van Arsdale
