Aloha,
This message is for all Maui Fires clients who have not yet completed their Claims Questionnaire. This step is essential. Your CQ is how your story is recorded and how your losses are understood when the Trustee begins evaluating claims. Even though the original deadline has passed, there is still a window for you to complete it, and doing so now is the most important action you can take to keep your claim active and eligible for review.
You can watch this week’s video update at the following link:
In that update I explain that the hearing originally scheduled for November 26 has been moved to December 17 due to conflicts on the court’s calendar. On that date we will ask the court to confirm that the class action case is finished, that all litigation against HECO should be stayed, and that the defendants must have thirty days from that date to begin funding the trust. If the court agrees we expect the first funds nearly one billion dollars to arrive within that thirty day window, with additional amounts arriving in stages.
The Trustee has also informed the court that claim determinations will likely begin in January. Even if determinations were ready sooner, there would be no funds available to distribute until after the trust receives its first infusion. This makes it even more important that your questionnaire is completed right now. Without a CQ your claim cannot move into the group eligible for review once the Trustee’s process begins.
You can complete your questionnaire by calling our office at 808-501-1683. A member of our team will walk you through each question and stay with you until the form is fully completed. You can also finish it through your client portal using your personal link below.

If your link has expired you can regain access by entering the same email or phone number you used before. Once you are in you can resume your questionnaire and submit it directly through the portal.
I know how heavy this process has been for many of you. I know that returning to these details can bring back pain that you have worked hard to carry day by day. Please know that we see that, we honor that, and we are here to support you without judgment. Your story matters and it deserves to be included in this process.
There will be no weekly update next Friday as many families across the islands and across the country gather in different ways during this time of year. We will return to our regular updates on the first Friday in December. Later in the month we will also hold another virtual town hall so that we can talk together about any developments after the hearing and answer your questions directly. If you need anything in the meantime, please reach out by phone or through the portal. Our office on the island is currently closed and will reopen on Monday, December 1.
This stage is your opportunity to make sure your voice is in the record and your claim is protected as the next phase begins. If you are unsure how to start or need help completing your questionnaire, please call us or log in through your portal. We will walk through it with you from beginning to end.
Mahalo for your patience, your courage, and the strength you continue to show. Maui’s resilience guides every step of this work, and I look forward to reconnecting with you in early December as we continue this journey for justice for your ohana.
Aloha,
Andrew Van Arsdale
