CLERGY ABUSE VICTIMS: SECOND CHANCE AT JUSTICE
New North Carolina Statute of Limitations on Sexual Abuse
New North Carolina Statute of Limitations on Sexual Abuse
- Age increase to 28 years old
- 2-year “look back” window
- North Carolina’s 2-Year Look Back Window Opens January 1, 2020 and ends January 1, 2022
MORE TIME TO PURSUE ACTION
New laws give clergy abuse survivors in North Carolina significantly more time to sue their abusers. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper signed Senate Bill 199 into law November 7, 2019, giving hope for victims of Catholic priest abuse. This bill officially opens up more time for sexual abuse victims to pursue justice and compensation for injuries and suffering caused by abuse inflicted on them as children.
North Carolina Catholic clergy abuse survivors now have until the age of 28 to file a lawsuit against their abusers and the Catholic Church.

North Carolina’s 2-Year Look Back Window Opens January 1, 2020 and ends January 1, 2022!
Senate Bill 199 completely removes North Carolina’s civil statute of limitations for sexual abuse for two years.
Within this time frame, sexual abuse survivors in North Carolina can sue abusers even if past statute of limitations made them ineligible to sue. The two-year look back window also applies to survivors whose cases expired under old statute of limitations. Senate Bill 199 gives thousands of Catholic priest sexual abuse victims in North Carolina a second chance to file claims against their abusers in the Catholic clergy and seek recovery for the injustices of the past.

For too long the Catholic Church has buried hundreds upon hundreds of sexual abuse cases. Only very recently have they released the names of “predator priests” to the public, names that should have been released decades ago. For years, the Catholic Church valued public image over the safety of children. Now is the time to fight back. It’s time to hold the Church responsible for their negligence.
We aim to hold the Catholic Church accountable for their crimes against you and hundreds of children across the United States. If you were sexually abused by a member of the Catholic clergy, contact us today.
