NUCLEAR SHADOWS: The Concealed Health Crisis at ICBM Sites

Documents show the risks toxic substances posed in the underground capsules and silos where Air Force nuclear missile crews have worked since the 1960s.

For years, servicemen and women have diligently worked at the underground launch control centers of Montana’s nuclear missile sites, trusting in the safety and integrity of their work environment. Recent revelations have shaken that trust, revealing alarming health concerns, particularly related to soaring cancer rates.

  • HEIGHTENED HEALTH RISKS: The Torchlight Initiative, a dedicated NGO, has documented 268 self-registered health cases, many of which are directly linked to cancer, with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma being notably prevalent.
  • A VULNERABLE WORKFORCE: The missileer community is at the epicenter of this health crisis. Findings suggest a worrying percentage from Malmstrom AFB have been diagnosed with NHL, particularly within specific service years.
  • A WIDESPREAD CONCERN: While Malmstrom AFB is a central focus, affected individuals hail from various Air Force/Air Bases, suggesting the potential magnitude of this crisis.
