TALC OVARIAN CANCER
Baby powder is composed of talc, one of the softest minerals on the planet. It is a clay mineral composed of magnesium, oxygen, and silicon; when ground down to a powder, the mineral becomes very absorbent and reduces friction when applied to various surfaces.
However, structurally talc is similar to asbestos, a well-known carcinogen. The American Cancer society even reports that in its natural form, some talc actually contains asbestos.
When talcum powder is used in the genital region, the particles can easily pass into the ovaries and stick. The trapped talcum particles then cause inflammation, which can easily lead to cancer cell growth.
Reports of baby powder causing cancer is nothing new to science. Claims allege J&J has attempted to skirt reports of baby powder causing ovarian cancer since the 1970’s.
Over 40 years ago, researchers in England analyzed a sample of 13 ovarian tumors and discovered “deeply embedded” talc particles in 10 of the 13 tumors. In 1982, Cancer, a notable journal, published a study by epidemiologist Daniel Cramer which revealed a statistical link between ovarian cancer and using talc in the genital region. Since this research was published, over 20 more epidemiological studies have confirmed the association between ovarian cancer and using talcum powder in the genital area.
