New laws give clergy abuse survivors in North Carolina significantly more time to sue their abusers. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper signed Senate Bill 199 into law November 7, 2019, giving hope for victims of Catholic priest abuse. This bill officially opens up more time for sexual abuse victims to pursue justice and compensation for injuries and suffering caused by abuse inflicted on them as children. 

North Carolina Catholic clergy abuse survivors now have until the age of 28 to file a lawsuit against their abusers and the Catholic Church.

Senate Bill 199 completely removes North Carolina's civil statute of limitations for sexual abuse for two years.
