Aloha my ohana,
To all of you who came out on Wednesday night, thank you so much for spending time and talking story with my team and me. We are so appreciative of the trust and faith you have placed in our firm.
Today, I am pleased to report that we have entered into an agreement with all defendants to resolve your case, along with all other cases, for a total of 4.037 billion dollars, which will be divided among all claimants. That does not mean that I will be able to get you money tomorrow, but it does pave the way for us to move onto the next phase of the case where we try to get you as much money as possible for your individual claim.
The next step in your case is to try to limit the insurance companies who are trying to reimburse themselves for the claims they have paid out on policies related to destroyed homes and businesses. We have a hearing on Tuesday, August 13th, in front of Judge Cahill on that issue, which will be the next battleground.
This is important because now that 4 billion dollars has been committed to compensate you and others for what you suffered due to the fire, the insurance companies are trying to take some of that for themselves. We need to ensure they get as little of that as possible and push as much money into your hands as we can.
This is all breaking news, and I will have another update out next week that outlines the next steps. But in general, this is great news and should pave the way to get you the resources you need to set you on your next path—a path that you can choose for the benefit of you and your loved ones.
Rebecca is in our office all next week. If you have not filled out your questionnaire, please go see her or get in touch with her to do so. We need as much information as possible to make your claim as strong as possible and get you your share of this settlement. I will be on the island the week of the 12th, and I look forward to seeing you then.
Sincerely Yours,
Andrew Van Arsdale
