Immediately following President Joe Biden's 2020 election win, Trump launched the Save America PAC. With aggressive and relentless marketing tactics, Trump bombarded his supporters with emails promising that contributions would go directly to this official election defense fund to "Stop the Steal" and overturn the 2020 election results.
According to Amanda Carpenter's reporting for The Bulwark, Trump's aggressive marketing did so well that within eight weeks, it "raked in upwards of $30 million." Furthermore, Carpenter notes that "the overall haul was reportedly more than $250 million." 1
There's just one problem.
Trump lied.
No official defense fund existed, and, according to the Washington Post, "75 percent of each contribution to the joint fundraising committee would first go toward the Save America leadership PAC, and the rest would be shared with the party committee to help with the party's operating expenses." 2
In short, the whole Save America PAC was a scam to benefit Trump and his family.
